10 Cool Office Spaces
Most corporate offices are made up of fluorescent lights, bare beige walls, dated technology, and the dreaded cube farm. But some companies—like Facebook, Google and Box—offer employees much more creative, colorful and conducive workspaces.
“Creating a cool office space can and should reflect a company’s culture,” says Samantha Zupan, a Glassdoor spokesperson. “It can be a sense of pride for employees and an attractive selling point to recruits. Depending on how you design the workplace, it can offer a host of benefits. For example, an area with video games gives employees a chance to decompress and not focus on work for a little while, or a meeting area that’s filled with color and interesting structures could help stir up employees’ creative juices.”
Zupan says Google’s slide, Infosys’s bowling alley and the Epic headquarter campus “immediately jumped out” for her. “Seeing employees cruise down a slide seems to break down some traditional conservative office norms–and who wouldn’t want to see their boss come down the slide with a big smile on her face?” she says. “The bowling alley just seems outright fun and offers a great way to connect with co-workers over something other than work. For Epic, so many features of their headquarter office beyond the photo of the New City subway-like hallway are unique and creative–you can’t help but think this environment would cause you to feel inspired.”
Cool office spaces tend to be more common among tech companies. Why? “It’s a part of the industry’s culture,” Zupan says. “Plus, given the intensity around recruiting, tech companies often come up with a myriad of ways to attract top talent to their company. One way is by creating an aesthetically inviting workplace.”
Here are 10 cool office spaces:
1. Epic, headquartered in Verona, Wis., has designed an office hallway to look like the New York subway.
2. Google keeps some fun in mind at one of their offices as employees can literally slide from one floor down to the next.
