Another ORR section opened for traffic – Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has announced the opening of Pedda Amberpet-Shamshabad section of the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) for traffic. It will be the second section of ORR after the Gachibowli-Shamshabad section which was opened earlier.
HMDA Commissioner Rajeshwar Tiwari informed a gathering at the ‘Advantage AP – Annual IT summit’ on Wednesday that vehicles were being allowed on the 38.63 km stretch from Shamshabad to Pedda Amberpet from Tuesday (March 1).
The next extension of second phase ‘A’ from Narsingi to Patancheru of about 23.70 km will also be thrown open to traffic April-end.
All the four stages of ORR are of eight lanes (150 m) with service roads. Estimated cost of these works are about Rs.6,996 crore.
Remaining parts to be taken up as phase two B are between Patancheru-Shamirpet (38 km) and Shamirpet-Pedda Amberpet (33.30 km) and these are slated to be completed by November next year. The 158-km-long ORR has five-metre central median, two-lane service roads on either side, 20 interchanges and 25 metres for future MRTS/BRTS works.
Mr. Tiwari said the world class project connects National and State highways as also a bypass to the capital providing circular linkage to radial and arterial roads, quick access to international airport, linking to IT parks, townships, etc.
Vendors are also being finalised for a Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) with emergency communication system, traffic control centre, CCTV and so on.
A Toll Management System (TMS) with a manual or a smart card system is also on the anvil.
Work on six of the 33 radial roads identified for connecting ORR and Inner Ring Road (IRR) like Rajendranagar, Vikarabad, Gandipet, Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam at a cost of Rs.350 crore (44.30 km) were on.
Three more – Medak, Keesara and Nagole are to be taken up soon at a cost of Rs.170 crore (30 km).
The Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Improvement Project is to be completed before the monsoon begins and the Master Plan for HMDA other than GHMC area is to be released in the next few days for public debate, he added.
