The Importance of India in IT Outsourcing
IT outsourcing is synonymous with India and with very good reasons too. Recent research has again and again thrown up more or less consistent figures – more than 85 percent of the software firms in the US would choose India as their preferred destination for all IT outsourcing. Indian IT companies like Wipro, Infosys are multi-billion dollar outsourcing giants with US-listed shares.
And, now, India has added another feather in its outsourcing cap. India is the partner country for the CeBIT Australia 2012 in Sydney, Australia from 22nd– 24thMay, 2012. It is a great opportunity for the Asian giant to showcase the strength of its burgeoning IT sector in Australia and to all the other participating countries and patrons at the event.
“CeBIT Australia combines Asia Pacific’s largest exhibition with an innovative and exciting conference series featuring leading ICT vendors and content owners from across the world. It is also a platform to get a first hand view of latest technological developments across the globe, explore partnership opportunities and develop trade”.
That India been chosen to be a partner country in such a prestigious event stands testimony to India’s IT prowess. India has several factors going for it that make it the most suitable destination for all IT-related outsourcing.
According to latest news reports, today, India’s IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is worth a whopping $100 billion, and “it directly employs 107,000 people in the United States, almost a third of whom are Americans, a figure that has doubled in five years”.
Many factors have favoured India, catapulting it to the top of the IT outsourcing heap. India has excellent international data communication links and Internet access in major cities. With the Indian economy growing at a rapid pace, the highly pro-outsourcing Indian government has invested heavily in infrastructure, technology and communication links. Thanks to significant support from the government, India has been able to build high-tech areas where technology and infrastructure are of international standards. Numerous Software Technology Parks abound in the major metros which are equipped with all the latest infrastructure to encourage and attract all the big players in the IT industry from the world over.
India’s well-organised education system produces almost 3.1 million graduates each year of which a large percentage are graduates from technical institutes. In addition to the educational and professional qualifications, Indian professionals enjoy a comfort and ease with the English language that is not shared by other rival nations such as China or the Russia.
That India will continue to dominate the IT outsourcing industry goes without saying. The goal of Indian IT today is that customers should ‘come for the cost-savings, but stay for the quality’. Indeed, from handling IT-enabled services (ITES) like call centres, SEO, to now working on complex, pure IT jobs such as development and designing, Indian software programmers and developers are in huge demand.
When companies such as Cisco, Oracle or Hewlett Packard outsource to India they do so because of the confidence they have in the Indian IT outsourcing industry. They know that they will have access to talent, quality results, fast turnaround times and low costs. That so many multi-billion dollar companies outsource to India is yet further evidence that India is renowned around the world as the outsourcing hub of the world.

Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and by no means seem to get something done.
